How To Destroy Your Acne

by Natalie Jonas

Who isn’t familiar with the word ‘acne’ and all that it represents! For those who suffer from it, there’s nothing more debilitating to the self-esteem than this relatively superficial condition. Acne or Acne Vulgaris as it’s scientifically known, has been found to affect 96% teenagers. The condition results in both noninflammatory papules and blackheads and inflammatory papules, nodules and pustules.

It is sebaceous glands that secrete oil in our body. When these glands encounter any change, they result in acne. This oil secreted when gets into contact with one’s dead skin gets solidified and blocks the hair follicles.

In spite of this blockage, the sebaceous glands continue to generate oil which keeps building up creating conditions that are ideal for bacteria. This infection is what causes the skin to turn red and swell up enough to be identified as a pimple, spot or zit.

Since acne is connected to the sebaceous glands, it occurs in areas that contain such glands including the face, back and chest. The sebaceous glands go into overdrive during adolescence when the male hormone is at very high levels in our bodies. That’s one reason why for some people, the condition recedes as they get into adulthood.

However it is quite depressing for certain people who do not seem to get rid of this condition even when they are well past 30. Since acne starts spoiling our face when we are in the most susceptible stage of our life where we are not so confident about ourselves, this makes people go into a very depressed state ultimately forcing themselves to suicide. The indelible marks bring so much disgrace to the face that they are disheartened.

Stress also forms one of the major reasons for appearance of acne, though there are two main factors claimed by mythology for the occurrence of acne. They are diet and sex. While uncontrolled diet such as intake of oily food is attributed to cause acne, this myth has no proof very much like the age old belief that lack of sex or too much of it can produce acne too.

By removing three main elements, acne can be combated. They are the excess oil, dead skin and bacteria. Taking food that is rich in vitamin A can help you fight excess oil. Cosmetics along with salicylic acid can take care of dead skin cells while antibiotics can treat bacteria better.
